Elf Roger Star	I’m not on the test flight team but I was involved in some discussions about this year’s schedule. Santa’s goal every year is to do better than the year before. That means things like design and sleigh performance are important. So they test early to make sure everything is right before Santa flies.

Half Way to Christmas This Weekend

Happy half way to Christmas!

Today we celebrate Leon Day at the North Pole. “Leon” is Noel spelled backwards, which makes this day a little silly. It is kind of like April Fool’s Day for elves. Folks here do things backwards, enjoy pranking each other and decorating where they can for Christmas, even though it’s not Christmas.

Leon Day is actually an internet invention. It was first marked years ago online by early Christmas communities, such as the Merry Forums of MyMerryChristmas.com. Each 24th of the month is known as Rudolph Day and the countdown to Christmas Eve – the ultimate 24th day of the month during the year. June 24th and June 25th are special because they mark the half-way point to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Leon Day also falls about a week before July 1st – so it’s the perfect lead-in to Christmas-in-July.

Of course, we have things going on this weekend to mark Leon Day and the beginning of Christmas in July.

In Elf Chat, on Saturday, June 25th, we get a visit from Elf Roger. This is actually a re-schedule of the chat Roger was supposed to hold in April. He’s going to give us a program update for Tracker Elves. I’m not sure if he has any big announcements, but he has told me he is opening to answering any questions you might have.

Later on Saturday, also in Elf Chat, we anticipate a gathering of several North Pole Elves who will be talking about both Leon Day and Christmas in July at the North Pole.

200 Days to Santa’s Launch

There are officially 200 days until Santa’s launch and elves all over the world mark the milestone.

Over at North Pole Flight Command it is actually a very hectic time. This 200-day mark is a big one. Elf Buck Sanchez will be reviewing all operations and meeting with Santa this week to report on what he finds.

Here at SantaTrackers.net the milestone is marked in a more quiet way. While we note with some anticipation the closeness of Santa’s launch there is not as much urgency yet as it relates to Tracker Elves and their training.

“Elves who work as trackers this year would be advised to get on board early to get up to speed,” Elf Roger Star said. “We have a lot of changes these year, for sure. But we have time yet to learn those new processes and to become a bigger part of the tracking team for Santa. This year we are focusing on quality instead of quantity, so to speak. We feel that if we have better elves than we have had in the past we think we won’t need so many of them.”

What does a tracker elf need to be working on at this point in the countdown?

Elf Roger advises all elves go to Elf University to brush up on their skills and the changes already announced for this year. He also told me that elves need to be ready to participate in Christmas in July where a lot of big news will be breaking about tracking Santa this year.

Elf Roger Star will be in Elf Chat on Saturday, July 25th – also known as Leon Day at the North Pole. This replaces the chat originally scheduled by Roger in April that was missed due to technical difficulties. It will be held here on SantaTrackers.net.

This chat should NOT be confused with two other chats scheduled for that same weekend, just announced at SantaUpdate.com.

In those chats, which are for general audiences not just tracker elves, Elves Frank & Crash will hold an open chat on Saturday, followed by a chat about the History of Christmas in July at the North Pole by Elf Dr. Grant Smedley.

These events will kick off our Christmas-in-July celebrations.

Sector Weather Analyst Job Open

The new position of Sector Weather Analyst has just been posted by the Department of Elf Resources.

Elf Sandy Claus informs me that this position was requested by the Elf Supervisors to help stay on top of ever-changing weather conditions in every sector and to advise on flight operations.

The requirements in this position are fairly simple but there will be periods of intense activity.

Elves will be expected to be active and reporting in this role during flight-intensive periods, whether it is for Santa or for test flights.

A special closed group will be formed just for Weather Analysts so that Elf Supervisors can communicate with you separately. The reports you will be sending in will be different than standard weather reports and will take precedence.

This job is not exclusive and you can hold other elf positions while doing this job.

Due to the critical need for good information as it relates to weather each Elf Supervisor will be hiring specifically for his or her sector and there will be a number of elves placed in this position.

A new episode of the Santa Trackers Podcast is out and it is all about the Elf Supervisors. For whatever reason, this episode is titled Dummies and Fish in Barrels.

The Elf Supervisor Conference was held last week in Costa Rica. The first ever event was called by Santa and Elf Roger Star to address changes in the tracker elf program that Santa is introducing this year.

According to Elf Crash Murphy the changes are significant. The Elf Supervisors are really the first outside of Santa and Elf Roger to learn of the changes. In this episode, Elf Crash shares his thoughts about the Elf Supervisors and what all the changes will mean to tracker elves who interact with the Elf Supervisors on SantaTrackers.net.

Also invited on this episode is Elf Petey LaCroix, a field tracker elf that is sometimes featured on the Tracking Santa Around the World Radio show that broadcasts live each Christmas Eve on Kringle Radio.

A field tracker is a tracker elf of a different sort. Just ahead of Santa’s launch every year Elf Petey and others of the field tracker team are dispatched to different places all over the world. Their task is to try to capture Santa in flight, so their positioning is well known in advance of Santa’s flight and planned to best capture data of Santa in flight from the ground. The work they do is just part of a large data gathering effort that is used to evaluate Santa’s flight.

Elf Petey, and all field trackers, work for the Elf Supervisors. Petey provides his perspective on the work that Elf Supervisors do and why he hopes for the best with changes coming this year.

Christmas in July is mentioned as a watershed event for all trackers, with news of all changes being made public at that time for trackers everywhere.

Sandy just got back from the Elf Supervisor’s Meeting in Costa Rica, an event that figured a little in our chat about new elf jobs. There are several new jobs that Sandy told us about. 250 Days Until Santa’s Launch

As the world celebrates Easter the crew at North Pole Flight Command remind us that 250 days remain until Santa launches.

Santa is at the North Pole to celebrate Easter but is leaving very soon with a group of elves heading to Costa Rica for the Elf Supervisor meeting.

But North Pole Flight Command is noting an unusual warning from the Department of Redundancy Department about Santa’s sleigh. Reportedly some elves in Flight Command are upset about the warning.

Meetings will be held in Flight Command this week to discuss the matter, despite the event going on in Costa Rica.

In the meantime, we have heard that elves in the North Pole Post Office are grappling with a flood of mail in the past day or two about the Easter Bunny. The overwhelming question is whether or not the Easter Bunny is connected in someway with Santa and the North Pole.

The question was debated in the North Pole News Department. Some believe in the Easter Bunny and others do not. In the end, the News Department at SantaUpdate.com declined to publicly answer the question or post any information about the Easter Bunny.

I talked to Elf Ed Zachary, famed Defender of Santa Claus, who was very candid with me about why we never talk about the Easter Bunny.

He sent me this in an email:

“Harold – the Easter Bunny is a rabbit. An animal. He does not talk. He delivers chocolate eggs on fake grass. He evidently does this by hopping all over the place very quickly. He does not accept letters. He doesn’t visit with children — well, not as a normal rabbit. From pictures I have viewed he is not anywhere near the size of an normal rabbit you have ever seen. He does not take requests. He does not have elves. He does not have reindeer. Nobody really knows where he lives or where he came from. For us to talk about the Easter Bunny in the same breath as Santa Claus just is not right. Does Santa believe in the Easter Bunny? I don’t know, honestly. I do know this, however. He never talks about the Easter Bunny. I think it is wise we avoid the topic. Happy Easter- EZ”

New Stuff to Know

I received a very interesting report last night that is very new to me. It contains information about you elves in my Sector that I have never seen before. I think you should know about it.

I know we have seen a lot of new stuff this year. The Elf University thing is fantastic I think. But there has also been a number of changes to basic rules as set out in the Elf Community Standards and the Terms of Service for the website.

I have looked at these things. They are no big deal to me and for those of you who are here right now they are likely no big deal for you.

Next week I will be part of the Elf Supervisors meeting in Costa Rica. I’m really looking forward to going to that. But I have a feeling this new report I got will be something they talk about. If they don’t, I’m certainly going to ask about it.

The report details for me the activity of all elves in our sector. I can see your points, reviews, and each and every report you send to the North Pole. From this report they are asking me to give each of you some kind of review. I don’t think I need to do this YET…but I think this is a new thing that is coming.

Perhaps most concerning to me on this report is a column that shows me which elves are due to be “decommissioned”. That’s a fancy word that means you’ll be retired as an elf. There are a lot of elves with this status.

I know there has already been a great number of elves who were decommissioned a month or so ago as part of the site changes. But I was not aware this would be an ongoing thing.

They want me to sign-off on this procedure every four months. Yes, every four months I have to review your activity and status as an elf. Many of you will be rewarded for your activity and some of you will be decommissioned due to your lack of activity.

I have a lot of concerns and questions about this.

But before I get to those next week in the meeting I wanted to just let you guys know this was happening. I will answer any questions you have about it when I return. I am not sure I am ready to take questions right now about it. I need to understand it better first.

I grow concerned about the number of elves we have. But I am more concerned with the number of inactive elves we have.

Nobody really expects you to be active much at this time of the year. Frankly, there’s not much to do. So if you are gone for periods of time, especially at this time of the year, I don’t think that’s a concern. We all get busy. We all have family stuff. We all go on vacation. It’s okay.

But the elves on this list set for decommission have not been active in more than a year. That’s not a good thing. And I agree this needs a solution.

It looks like they have one and we will learn it together.

On another issue, some have written in to ask when our final site location for our sector HQ will be announced. The answer is that I have no clue yet. We are the largest sector, at least when it comes to the number of elves. We need the largest location and that is the big challenge. I know Santa wants this all done by Christmas in July, so I suspect we’ll know more sometime before then.
